More DIY

I've had this skirt for about two years and have only worn it ONCE. I finally decided to try and make a shirt out of it--its not as easy as I thought. I think I might need a dress form to work on this kind of stuff. Trying to make it off the shoulder, but I think I need to tighten the waist band first. I had it pinned up last night to make it look something like this:

However, I couldn't figure out how to sew it correctly. So I decided to try making it off the shoulder, and it came out looking better but that was when I realized I needed to tighten the waist band. I may go back to making it more like the above picture, but either way I will have a shirt when I am finished!

Hopefully I'll be done with it by tomorrow. Or at least ready to sew by tomorrow.

Happy Anniversary to Me

I can't believe its already August. As I sit here writing I'm listening to a Ben Rector radio station on Spotify (currently playing Switchfoot's Always) and I've just finished a bowl of oatmeal at 1:12 in the morning. Kasondra and Ashleigh are sitting here with me, drawing/writing and listening to Pandora/reading. Alysha isn't here tonight and the house is surprisingly quiet with the boys on Xbox. Kaye Kaye is sleeping and her light is off. Now that's something to talk about.

Now to get to my first post of the summer, and probably the last, unless I somehow come up with stuff this month ; )

I slept until 4 today: I must have been tired! Work has been crazy... and oh yea, I have a job now. I've been working for Tom Thumb, which is a gas station and convenience store. I usually work 7a-3p or 3p-11p, but I prefer the morning shift. Sometimes though I wish the shift wasn't a full 8 hours. And moving on. Ashleigh and I walked to Panera for breakfast at dinner time and I was reminded of living in Michigan. After working so much these past 2 months (started my job 2 months and 3 days ago) having a day off and NOT doing anything seems so weird. But somehow it makes me miss working at the daycare, having a car, and those Sunday mornings going for coffee alone and then just driving to some new church.

As much as I love my job and the city I live in, life here in Florida is just not the same as it was in Michigan. There are so many differences between people, laws and driving! If you haven't heard me say this before, I HATE Pensacola drivers. I feel like I need to go to driving school all over again. Though there are some things I don't like, there are a few things I love. I love my job. The people I work with are great, and my boss is even better; yesterday she bought us lunch. My roommate has been super helpful in getting me to work, and making sure I have food to eat. The House of Prayer here is just awesome. God has moved every time I've needed or wanted, and that place is just filled with his Spirit. On top of it all, I am close to the 2 people I love and want to influence the most: my nephew and niece. Getting to spend the last 9 months has been one of most rewarding things from being here. Their innocence has caused me to appreciate many small things. Though I don't spend nearly enough time with them, the times we do get is precious, and has made my life just that much better.

So, as I get myself to bed I am thankful that I have a roof over my head, a job to make money, and food to eat. I am definitely blessed with an amazing family, but even more I am grateful to God for where he has brought me. I may not be the best me, or who I want to be just yet,  but I'm working on doing what's right and living for God the best that I can. Jesus is the One that I live for, and through the ups and downs he is God and he is good!

Happy work Anniversary to me. : )

Andrew Belle....

He's definitely my favorite musical artist right now!
